What is a clinical assessment?

This process provides information that helps the clinician assist a family with recommendations for appropriate treatment services. Components of the assessment are determined by the child’s age, presenting challenges, and the needs of the family. It may include a parent interview, child interview, completion of standardized assessment instruments, and the Marschak Interaction Method, which is videotaped. A comprehensive assessment provides objective information about the neurological, sensory, and adaptive developmental, and emotional functioning of a child and information about the parent-child relationship.
