Orientation Meetings are free and open to the public and required of families at the beginning of the home study process. Please call Coordinators2 @ (804) 354-1881 to register for meetings at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled date.

U.S. Infant, International, & Waiting Child Orientation
Purpose: For persons interested in learning about adopting infants and older children in the United States or adopting children from foreign countries. Information will be shared about the advantages, risks and opportunities of all types of adoption. Specific information will be shared about our own Parental Placement (open adoption) program, China and Guatemalan programs, as well as information about how we can assist in the adoption of children from anywhere in the world.

CONSULTATION SERVICES
Placement Program Consultation: For persons interested in exploring all of their options and choices in a one-on-one consultation with our Executive Director or Placement Director. There is a $60/hour fee for this service. This service can take the place of our free orientation meeting and there is no obligation.

Waiting Child Consultation: For persons interested in learning about children ages 9 and older that are waiting for an adoptive family and children for whom we are recruiting adoptive families. Learn about the children, ways you can help a waiting child and the adoption process.

EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS

Please read below to see which workshops are required and when, for the type of adoption you are pursuing. There are no fees for attendance by Coordinators2inc clients. who have submitted a home study application. A $15 donation per person will be requested of other participants. You must call Coordinators2inc @ (804) 354-1881 to register for workshops at least 24 hours prior to the scheduled date. A minimum of 5 people are needed in order to proceed with any of these workshops. We will close registration once 25 people are pre-registered. All others will be asked to register for the next scheduled meeting.

 

***Beginning January 1, 2008, all families adopting internationally will need to comply with the new Hague Accreditation requirements for a minimum of 10 hours of training DURING THE HOME STUDY PROCESS. Attendance at EACH of the following workshops will meet this requirement but must be done during your home study assessment. Families adopting from China may also find additional courses are necessary. Please talk with your social worker regarding timing, alternatives if necessary, and to clarify what you need to complete.***

#6 Medical Issues in International Adoption:
Required of all International families during the home study process. This workshop is conducted by Dr. Suzanne Lavoie, Professor and Chair of Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the Medical College of Virginia and the mother of three children adopted internationally. Dr. Lavoie is the current Medical Director for the new International Adoption Medical Clinic with the VCU Children's Medical Center.

SUPPORT GROUPS
Birth Parent & Adult Adoptee

This support group is free and available to any adult adoptee or any parent who has placed a child for adoption regardless of when, how or with another agency. This group is also open and available to anyone contemplating adoption for their child as an opportunity to speak with others who have lived the experience. Extended family members are also welcome to attend. The group is led by a social worker, who is also a birth mother and an adoptee.

Sustaining Adoption through the Rough Times

Adoptive Parent Support Group (12:30-2:00 1st Tuesday Every Other Month)

 
This support group is free and will meet every other month at lunchtime. You will be able to share your joys and challenges with other adoptive families. Bring your own lunch and stay for all or part of the time. Drinks and dessert will be provided. To register, please call 804-354-1881.

"We Are Family" Adoptive Parent Virtual Online Support Group
"We Are Family" is a virtual online support group for adoptive families, created for the purpose of offering families a forum for sharing the joys and challenges that are unique to adoptive families and disseminating information on a wide range of issues that impact adoptive families.
